Serón is situated on the northern slope of the
Filabres Mountain Range in the Almanzora Valley. It
is approx. 127 kms from the capital of Almeria and is
at an altitude of 822m above sea level. The houses of
this lovely Spanish town are built on the hillsides,
with fabulous views over the the valley.
At the nearby natural thermal spring - the Balsa de
Cela – you can swim amongst the goldfish and look
at the mountains or simply sunbathe. There’s a
free life guard service during the summer so children
can swim safely whilst you have a refreshing drink at
one of the poolside bars.
Activies include biking & walking trails, rock
climbing & abseiling, as well as off-road driving
in one of the many ramblas (dry river beds). Serón is ideally located for day trips to the Sierra Nevada
ski resort, the beautiful beaches of Mojacar, Vera &
Garrucha, golf courses, Mini Hollywood, adventure caves
and much much more.
The area is seeped in history, many of the ramblas
having been old Roman trading routes. Serón is
on the border of Almeria and Granada, close to the Roman
city of Baza and surrounded by mountains. Seron is widely
acclaimed for its Jamon (spanish parma ham) and the
area offers excellent local produce very cheaply.
Serón, as with most Spanish towns, likes to
celebrate and has a variety of fiestas thoughtout the
year, many with free food and drink, including the “Celebration
of the Jamon” in August, the “Fires of Santa
Lucia” in December, the “Virgen of the Candlemas”
in February, the “Purest One” in December,
“San Juan” in June, and the “Moors
& Christians” during the month of August.
There is a growing english community, and the town
of Albox situated approx. 30 mins drive from Serón now offers english products such as tea bags, english
bread, newspapers, english bacon and sausages, together
with numerous other foods that you may miss.
